Manassas Woman Wins a Muscle Car From The Virginia Lottery

July 26, 2010

Jannie Gaskins may not seem like the sort of person you would see driving a Dodge Challenger R/T Hemi. The Manassas woman is retired from Prince William County Public Schools and currently works as a Walmart greeter. Now she can be seen in the driver’s seat of a hot new set of wheels, with a little help from the Virginia Lottery.

And she did it with a losing ticket!

Ms. Gaskins entered her non-winning ticket in the Lottery’s June 15 Muscle Car Money Sweepstakes drawing and won.

On July 26, Karen Colvin, manager of the Virginia Lottery’s Northern Virginia Customer Service Center, handed Ms. Gaskins the keys to her new car. The presentation took place at Lustine Dodge Jeep in Woodbridge.

It’s not the first time Ms. Gaskins has won a big prize from the Virginia Lottery. On June 7, she won $10,000 in the $70 Million Payout Spectacular Scratcher game.

“It’s exciting to win,” she told Lottery officials.

The Muscle Car Money Scratcher game features cash prizes up to $75,000 – and an additional 12 lucky scratch winners will receive the keys to their choice of one of four brand-new American-made muscle cars: Chevrolet Camaro SS, Dodge Charger R/T Hemi, Dodge Challenger R/T Hemi or Ford Mustang GT.

Players can also submit non-winning tickets for a second chance to win four additional muscle cars, or exciting muscle car merchandise prize packs, each of which includes a duffel bag, key holder, sunglasses, roller, cooler bag, T-shirt and cap. A total of 1,574 prize packs will be awarded in four drawings. The fourth muscle car will be awarded in an on-field drawing at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg in October.

The Lottery is also taking Muscle Car Money on the road this summer, with special appearances at events across the Commonwealth. At those special events, players can enter the “Muscle Car Money Summer Fun Sweepstakes” by buying one Muscle Car Money ticket to receive an entry form. Out of those entries, one person will win a VIP trip to the 2010 NASCAR Awards Banquet in Las Vegas, Nevada, with SPEED Channel Analyst Hermie Sadler.

For more information, including how to enter non-winning tickets in the second-chance drawings, visit www.valottery.com. The odds of scratching to win a muscle car are 1 in 340,000. The odds of winning any prize in the Muscle Car Money game are 1 in 4.12.

Nearly 95 cents of each dollar spent on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the Commonwealth in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retailer commissions. Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In that time, the Lottery has turned over more than $4 billion for Virginia’s public schools. The latest annual profits of $439.1 million currently represent about 8 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia. In 21 years, the Lottery has sold more than $21.1 billion in tickets, awarded more than $1.1 billion in retailer commissions and paid more than $11.6 billion in prizes to players.
