Fredericksburg Man Wins $52,000 In Win For Life

July 15, 2010

Mark Raymond of Fredericksburg likes to play the Virginia Lottery’s Win For Life game because he likes the odds. In the July 7 drawing, he beat those odds to win the game’s second prize of $52,000.

The ticket that he bought at the 7-Eleven at 4949 Seminary Road in Alexandria matched five numbers plus the Free Ball. The winning numbers for that drawing were 9-11-27-30-32-37 and the Free Ball was 13.

Mr. Raymond, a retired chief petty officer in the Navy who now works in security, told Virginia Lottery officials he plans to use his winnings to pay bills.

Win For Life offers a top prize of $1,000 per week for the life of the winner. Drawings are held Wednesday and Saturday nights at 11:00.

Nearly 95 cents of each dollar spent on the Virginia Lottery by players goes back to the Commonwealth in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retailer commissions. Since 1999, all Virginia Lottery profits have been designated solely to K-12 public school education in the Commonwealth. In that time, the Lottery has turned over more than $4 billion for Virginia’s public schools. The latest annual profits of $439.1 million currently represent about 7 percent of state funding for public education in Virginia. In 21 years, the Lottery has sold more than $21.1 billion in tickets, awarded more than $1.1 billion in retailer commissions and paid more than $11.6 billion in prizes to players.
